Terms of Service
Effective Date: October 27, 2026
Last Updated: October 27, 2026
Welcome to Lamp Light. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Lamp Light website, software, applications, tools, and related services (collectively, the "Service") operated by Niam LeStourgeon ("Lamp Light," "we," "us," or "our").
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
Please read these Terms carefully, together with our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
1. Description of the Service
Lamp Light is a document-reading, scanning, translation, form-filling, and self-signing tool designed to help users process documents and listen to document text.
Depending on the version of the Service available to you, Lamp Light may allow you to:
- Upload or select PDF files from your device;
- Display and navigate PDF text;
- Start text-to-speech playback from particular words or sections;
- Adjust reading speed;
- Select available browser voices;
- Download and use an optional neural text-to-speech model;
- Use your device's camera to capture document images;
- Upload document photographs;
- Correct the perspective of captured documents;
- Apply image enhancement filters;
- Perform optical character recognition ("OCR");
- Generate a PDF from captured or uploaded document images; and
- Download generated files.
Certain functionality may depend on your browser, operating system, device capabilities, or availability of third-party resources.
2. Fees, Payment, and Refunds
Local reading and scanning may be available without an account. Lamp Light Pro features—including private cloud storage, translation, translated narration, form filling, and self-signing—require an active subscription.
Lamp Light Pro is billed monthly at US$19.99, with applicable taxes and the final amount displayed before payment, until cancelled. Each paid billing cycle includes 200,000 source-text characters and at most 100 translated pages, plus a separate allowance of 100 imported/OCR pages. Cloud PDFs may contain up to 100 pages and 50 MiB each. The workspace allows 25 document slots and 1 GiB of original PDFs; generated files are stored separately with size limits.
Each new target language consumes translation allowance. Reopening or downloading a completed translation of the same saved document does not. Allowances do not roll over, and exceeding them does not trigger automatic charges. Failed translation jobs are credited back to their original cycle when terminal failure is recorded. Deleting documents frees storage and document slots, but does not restore completed processing allowance. Pending uploads reserve capacity until deleted. The free local reader has a separate 500-page document limit.
The launch plan has no annual option, paid add-on or unlimited translation. Translation supports English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German. Exports provide readable text rather than preserving original PDF layouts. Voice availability depends on the device. Translations are not certified translations. Dollar prices are in US dollars; your payment provider may charge conversion fees. Mandatory local consumer rights are not limited by these terms.
2.1 Payment Processing
All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe"), an independent, third-party payment processor. When you choose to create an account, you will be redirected to a checkout page hosted by Stripe.
Lamp Light does not receive, process, or store your full payment card number, card verification code, or bank account details. Stripe collects that information directly and provides Lamp Light only with confirmation that payment was completed, the email address you supplied at checkout, and a transaction identifier used to verify your payment before your account is created.
Your use of Stripe's checkout is also subject to Stripe's own terms. See our Privacy Policy for more information about how Stripe handles your information.
2.2 Pricing and Currency
Prices are listed in U.S. Dollars and displayed to you before you are redirected to checkout. We may change pricing at any time; changes will not affect a payment you have already completed.
2.3 Refunds
Payments are non-refundable except where required by applicable law. Lamp Light Pro subscriptions are donations supporting development and are non-refundable.
2.5 Failed or Disputed Payments
If a payment is reversed, charged back, or otherwise invalidated after your account has been created, we may suspend or terminate the associated account.
3. Eligibility
You must be legally capable of entering into a binding agreement to use the Service.
By using the Service, you represent that:
- You have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms;
- Your use of the Service complies with all applicable laws and regulations; and
- You will not use the Service for any unlawful or prohibited purpose.
The Service is not specifically directed toward children under 13. Persons under 13 should not use the Service without appropriate parental involvement where permitted by applicable law.
4. International Use
Lamp Light is operated from the United States. We make no representation that the Service is appropriate, legally permitted, or available for use in every country.
If you access or use the Service from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with the laws of your own jurisdiction, to the extent those laws apply.
These Terms, including the governing-law and venue provisions in Section 22, apply to users regardless of location, except to the extent applicable law in your jurisdiction mandatorily grants you additional rights that cannot be waived by contract — in which case those mandatory rights will apply in addition to these Terms.
5. Acceptance of These Terms
By accessing, browsing, or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.
Where the Service presents these Terms through a checkbox, button, registration process, or other affirmative acceptance mechanism, your affirmative action constitutes your electronic acceptance of these Terms.
Electronic records and contracts may have legal effect under applicable law. Arizona law, for example, generally recognizes electronic records and contracts and permits contracts to be formed through electronic interactions.
6. Changes to the Service
We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.
This may include changes to:
- Features;
- Supported browsers;
- Supported file types;
- Voice engines;
- Third-party libraries;
- File-size or processing limitations;
- Availability of free or paid functionality; and
- The overall design or operation of the Service.
We are not obligated to maintain any particular feature indefinitely.
7. User Content and Documents
For purposes of these Terms, "User Content" means documents, files, photographs, text, recordings, or other materials that you choose to process or provide through the Service.
7.1 Ownership
You retain ownership of your User Content.
Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of your documents or other User Content to Lamp Light.
7.2 Your Responsibility
You are solely responsible for your User Content and for ensuring that you have all rights, permissions, licenses, consents, and legal authority necessary to use and process the content through the Service.
You must not process content through Lamp Light if doing so would:
- Violate applicable law;
- Infringe another person's intellectual property rights;
- Violate an employment, confidentiality, nondisclosure, or other contractual obligation;
- Violate privacy or data-protection rights;
- Violate a court order or governmental restriction; or
- Otherwise create a legal obligation for you or Lamp Light that you are not authorized to create.
7.3 Document Processing, Translation, and Storage
Some reader and scanner functions may run locally in your browser. When you choose a Lamp Light Pro feature, we upload and store your document and derived files in an encrypted private workspace hosted through Amazon Web Services so that we can process, retrieve, and delete them on your instruction.
To provide translation, Lamp Light sends document text and, where necessary, document content required for OCR or translation to our NVIDIA Riva Translate 4B Instruct v2 processing environment. NVIDIA and any configured hosting provider receive that information solely to perform the requested processing on Lamp Light's behalf; the document is not used to train Lamp Light's models.
7.4 Electronic Signatures and Confidentiality
Lamp Light's self-sign feature supports only the signed-in account holder. You must affirmatively consent before completing a document. Lamp Light records a completion audit record, but does not provide a qualified, certificate-backed, notarized, identity-verified, or jurisdiction-specific signature service. You are responsible for determining whether a standard electronic signature is suitable for your document and jurisdiction.
No Internet-connected service can guarantee absolute confidentiality or security.
You should exercise appropriate care when processing highly sensitive, confidential, regulated, proprietary, or legally protected information.
8. License to Lamp Light
You grant Lamp Light only the limited rights reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and provide the Service.
To the extent User Content is technically transmitted to, stored by, or made accessible to Lamp Light or its service providers, this license is:
- Non-exclusive;
- Limited to the purposes described above;
- Worldwide to the extent technically necessary;
- Royalty-free; and
- Limited to the duration reasonably necessary to provide the applicable Service or satisfy legal obligations.
Lamp Light does not claim ownership of your User Content.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation;
- Infringe or misappropriate intellectual property rights;
- Violate another person's privacy or publicity rights;
- Upload content you are not legally authorized to process;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure;
- Circumvent security controls, access restrictions, or technical limitations;
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service;
- Introduce malware, viruses, malicious code, or other harmful material;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code from the Service except where such restriction is prohibited by law;
- Scrape or harvest the Service on an unreasonable or automated basis;
- Use automated systems to place an unreasonable load on the Service;
- Attempt to bypass usage limits or technical safeguards;
- Use the Service to facilitate fraud, abuse, impersonation, or other unlawful activity;
- Use the Service to process or distribute illegal material; or
- Use the Service in a way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the Service or interfere with another user's use of it.
We may suspend or terminate access where we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated or where necessary to protect the Service, our users, or others.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service, excluding User Content, is owned by or licensed to Lamp Light and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
This includes, as applicable:
- Software;
- Source code;
- Object code;
- Website design;
- User interface;
- Graphics;
- Logos;
- Branding;
- Documentation;
- Text;
- Layouts;
- Original content; and
- Other materials provided by Lamp Light.
Except as expressly permitted by these Terms or applicable law, you may not copy, modify, reproduce, distribute, publicly display, sell, license, lease, or create derivative works from Lamp Light's proprietary materials.
Third-Party and Open-Source Software
Lamp Light incorporates or loads third-party and open-source software, libraries, fonts, and models.
Those components may be governed by their own licenses and terms. Nothing in these Terms is intended to override rights granted under applicable open-source or third-party licenses.
The current implementation includes third-party open-source software and fonts bundled with the Service, including PDF.js, jsPDF, pdf-lib, Tesseract.js, Kokoro-related software, IBM Plex Sans, and Source Serif 4. The optional Kokoro voice model is downloaded from Hugging Face when you choose to use it.
11. AI and Automated Processing
Certain Lamp Light functionality may use automated technologies, including optical character recognition and neural text-to-speech.
These technologies may produce errors.
OCR may incorrectly identify characters or words. Text-to-speech systems may pronounce words incorrectly, omit content, or produce unexpected results.
You are responsible for reviewing output before relying upon it.
Lamp Light does not guarantee that automated processing is accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose.
12. No Professional Advice
Lamp Light is a general-purpose software tool.
The Service does not provide legal, financial, medical, accounting, educational, employment, or other professional advice.
If information processed through Lamp Light relates to a regulated or high-stakes matter, you should independently verify the information and consult an appropriately qualified professional.
13. Availability
We strive to keep the Service available and functional, but we do not guarantee that it will:
- Be available at all times;
- Operate without interruption;
- Be error-free;
- Be compatible with every device or browser;
- Remain unchanged;
- Support every PDF or image;
- Successfully process every document;
- Produce accurate OCR or speech output; or
- Remain available indefinitely.
The Service may become unavailable due to maintenance, outages, software updates, browser changes, third-party failures, security incidents, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
14. Third-Party Services
Lamp Light depends on third-party services and infrastructure for certain functionality.
These include, among others, payment processing provided by Stripe, Inc., open-source JavaScript libraries, and externally hosted machine-learning models. See our Privacy Policy for details about each provider.
Third-party services may change, become unavailable, restrict access, modify their terms, or cease providing particular resources.
Lamp Light is not responsible for the acts, omissions, availability, security, or privacy practices of independent third parties.
Your use of third-party services may also be subject to their separate terms and policies.
15. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy.
Our Privacy Policy explains:
- What information we collect;
- How information is used;
- How document processing works;
- Third-party services used by Lamp Light;
- Data retention;
- Privacy rights; and
- How to contact us about privacy issues.
The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
16. User Feedback
If you provide suggestions, ideas, comments, bug reports, or other feedback about Lamp Light ("Feedback"), you grant Lamp Light a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable right to use, reproduce, modify, distribute, display, and otherwise use that Feedback for any lawful purpose.
You understand that we are not obligated to compensate you for Feedback or to maintain it confidential.
This section does not transfer ownership of your underlying User Content.
17. Copyright Complaints
If you believe that material made available through Lamp Light infringes your copyright, you may contact us with information reasonably sufficient to identify:
- The copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed;
- The material allegedly infringing the copyright;
- The location of that material;
- Your contact information;
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized; and
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information provided is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
You may send copyright notices to:
Niam LeStourgeon Copyright Contact: [email protected]
18. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time.
We may suspend or terminate your access to some or all of the Service if:
- You violate these Terms;
- Your use creates a security or legal risk;
- Your use may harm Lamp Light, its users, or third parties;
- We are required to do so by law;
- We discontinue the Service; or
- We otherwise determine that suspension or termination is reasonably necessary to protect the Service or our rights.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including provisions concerning intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, disputes, and governing law.
19. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS.
LAMPLIGHT DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF:
- MERCHANTABILITY;
- FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE;
- TITLE;
- NON-INFRINGEMENT;
- ACCURACY;
- RELIABILITY;
- AVAILABILITY; AND
- SECURITY.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, BE ERROR-FREE, OR PRODUCE ACCURATE RESULTS.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT DOCUMENT PROCESSING, OCR, TEXT EXTRACTION, SPEECH SYNTHESIS, SCANNING, OR GENERATED FILES WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR SUITABLE FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE RELYING UPON IT.
Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
20. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LAMPLIGHT AND ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AGENTS, AFFILIATES, LICENSORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF:
- PROFITS;
- REVENUE;
- BUSINESS;
- DATA;
- GOODWILL;
- CONTENT;
- DOCUMENTS; OR
- USE.
THIS LIMITATION APPLIES REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY ON WHICH LIABILITY IS ASSERTED, INCLUDING CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, WARRANTY, OR OTHERWISE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE TOTAL LIABILITY OF LAMPLIGHT AND ITS RELATED PARTIES FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF:
- THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO LAMPLIGHT FOR THE SERVICE DURING THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM; OR
- ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100).
If you use the Service entirely without payment, this limitation shall apply to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
Some jurisdictions do not permit certain limitations of liability, so some provisions may not apply to you.
21. Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Lamp Light and its owners, officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, affiliates, licensors, and service providers from and against claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or relating to:
- Your User Content;
- Your violation of these Terms;
- Your violation of applicable law;
- Your infringement or misappropriation of another person's rights;
- Your misuse of the Service; or
- Your negligent or wrongful conduct.
We reserve the right to assume exclusive control of the defense of any matter subject to indemnification, and you agree to cooperate reasonably with that defense.
You may not settle any matter in a manner that imposes an obligation or admission on Lamp Light without our prior written consent.
22. Dispute Resolution
22.1 Informal Resolution
Before initiating formal legal proceedings, you agree to contact Lamp Light and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the dispute informally.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may seek emergency or injunctive relief where necessary to protect intellectual-property rights, confidential information, security, or prevent immediate irreparable harm.
22.2 Governing Law
These Terms will be governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, except to the extent applicable law requires otherwise.
22.3 Venue
Unless otherwise required by applicable law, any permitted court proceeding arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona, and you consent to the jurisdiction and venue of those courts.
22.4 Arbitration
To the maximum extent permitted by law, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that cannot be resolved informally may be resolved by binding individual arbitration rather than in court.
The arbitration will be conducted on an individual basis. Neither party may participate in a class action, class arbitration, or representative action concerning a dispute covered by this provision, except where prohibited by applicable law.
This arbitration provision does not prevent either party from seeking qualifying emergency, injunctive, or equitable relief in court.
23. Class Action Waiver
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you and Lamp Light agree that claims may be brought only on an individual basis and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated, or representative action.
No arbitrator or court may combine the claims of multiple people or preside over a representative proceeding unless both parties expressly agree otherwise or applicable law requires otherwise.
24. No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce that provision later.
A waiver must be expressed in writing and applies only to the specific instance for which it is given.
25. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, invalid, or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by law, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
26. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any additional terms expressly incorporated into the Service, constitute the entire agreement between you and Lamp Light concerning your use of the Service.
They supersede prior or contemporaneous understandings concerning the same subject matter, except where a separate written agreement expressly governs.
27. Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent.
We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, corporate reorganization, financing, sale of assets, or similar transaction.
28. Force Majeure
Lamp Light will not be responsible for delay, interruption, or failure caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including:
- Natural disasters;
- Fire;
- Flood;
- Severe weather;
- War;
- Terrorism;
- Civil unrest;
- Government action;
- Labor disputes;
- Utility failures;
- Internet or telecommunications failures;
- Cyberattacks;
- Third-party service outages;
- Browser or operating-system changes; or
- Other events beyond our reasonable control.
29. Notices and Electronic Communications
You consent to receive electronic communications from Lamp Light where permitted by law.
Electronic notices, disclosures, agreements, and other communications may satisfy legal requirements that the communication be in writing, subject to applicable law.
You are responsible for maintaining an appropriate method of receiving communications concerning your use of the Service.
30. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
When we update them, we will revise the "Last Updated" date.
If we make a material change, we may provide additional notice where appropriate, such as through the Service or by other reasonable means.
Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

Internal reporting and AI assistance
The operator may use a private, read-only reporting dashboard to understand aggregate usage, operational health, and attributed costs. Reported totals may be delayed, partial, or estimated. Order values do not necessarily represent collected payments, and estimated model or hosting costs do not replace provider invoices. The optional owner assistant explains retrieved information and offers navigation; it cannot change project operations. AI explanations can be inaccurate and should be checked against the displayed source and reporting time before acting.
Reporting update: September 16, 2026. This addition does not change customer pricing, cancellation rights, or existing authentication requirements.
